The question:
“How do I keep my mind from wandering while giving a Reiki session?”
Whether you are just starting out on your Reiki journey, or a seasoned professional like myself, having a wandering mind can be a common occurrence. Here are my favourite tips for keeping your head clear and focused on the present moment with your client:
1. Have an affirmation or mantra running through your mind
Giving your active mind a ‘job’ to do while you are working can help keep it focused on something beneficial for your client. I suggest a mantra such as: “You are loved, you are happy, you are healthy.” or “Love. Health. Happiness. Peace.” What ever your client needs to feel at this point in their life, repeat that. Over and over and over again.
2. Connect with the sensation of Love
Focus on a feeling, and try to have the sensation of it well up within you. As energy passes through your channel to the person you are working on, it will take with it this feeling as it flows out your hands to them. I often ask myself “what does it FEEL like to be enveloped in love right now?” or “What does it feel like to give love to this other beautiful soul?” The basic principle of sending Reiki energy to someone else is essentially about sending that person the energy of love that our universe is filled with.
3. Visualize the flow of energy
I teach my students the visualization of energy coming in through the crown of the head, down to the heart (where it is blessed with love), and then flowing though the arms and out the hands to the person receiving it. So going back to this basic imagery can help your mind stay focused on exactly what you are doing during the session. I often sync this image with the breath: Inhaling pulls the energy down through the crown to the heart. Exhaling sends the energy through the arms and out the hands to the person in front of me.
