Music for a Reiki Session

Music can speak to your heart and soul.
It can relax you or energize you.
It can send out a vibration into your body, and out into the world.

While giving Reiki, music can definitely impact a session – for better and for worse.

When there is soothing, relaxing sounds billowing out from the speakers, I can physically see clients let go and unwind much more quickly than with no music at all.

I have had many shy requests from clients who ask to have the music changed to something more suited to their needs when music with words is too distracting.

I’ve had a client who was emotionally triggered by Indian-inspired mantra singing because of a negative past experience. I’ve known others who really really don’t like the sound of birds chirping or dolphin’s “squealing” in the background. Music is such a personal taste and as a Reiki or massage practitioner, you must respect your client’s preferences.

Here is my list of Yays and Nays when it comes to music specifically in a Reiki session:

  • Slow rhythm
  • Soft volume
  • No words or lyrics
(or have lyrics in an unfamiliar language so clients wont ‘sing along’ in their minds)
  • Classical: Piano, Guitar, Violin
  • Soft Jazz: Saxaphone
  • Nature sounds
  • The entire album/playlist be at a similar tempo (not one slow song, then an energizing song next)

Here are my top recommendations:

  • Adam Dobres Guitarist – buy here
  • Peter Jack Rainbird – Unravel – buy here
  • Letting Go – Christopher Lloyd Clark – buy here
  • Llewellin Relaxation
  • Anzan Relaxation
  • Piano Solitudes by Dan Gibson
